Choosing A Market

Don't limit your creativity to T-shirt designs – think creatively when identifying new markets.

Identifying a target market for your T-shirt business can be a daunting task. Businesses, schools, and sports teams are obvious potential markets, but keeping your eyes (and your mind) open will help immensely. Look for opportunities in your everyday life.

Looking for a specific gift for a friend? Want to try a new restaurant? Small shops and boutiques may be interested in selling your designs or in having you print shirts for them. Restaurants and bars often sell apparel adorned with their logos. Many bars and restaurants also have weekly or monthly car "shows" where people show off their classic automobiles. This could be a great place to sell automotive-inspired merchandise. The only limit is your imagination.

Whether you're shopping, eating, or checking out a local band, it never hurts to ask if there's a sales opportunity. Try to find a need and fill it, whether it's promotional shirts for a radio station, souvenirs from a church outing, or perhaps a complimentary bag or shirt from your local family doctor.

Below is a list of some potential markets. Keep your eyes open and build your own list – and your business.
