Transfer Express, Inc. is not very old as it was incorporated in December 1990. However, if you combine the two principals that formed the new corporation, Weaver Screen Print, Inc. and Stahls' Inc., we immediately gain credibility from the history of both companies.
Stahls' was started in business in 1932 by A.C. Stahl and was known as Commercial Art Products. The company did chenille sewing on a background of felt. The hand cutting of the felt was very time consuming. It was found that felt could be cut much faster by using a die and a punch press. The die cutting of felt was divided into a separate company called "The Stahl Felt Stamping Company." This was taken over by A.C.'s son and daughter-in-law, Ernest A. and Murice (Ernie and Ricki) Stahl.
Lettering and numbering for sportswear has become a big and more stable business. Felt was replaced by newer synthetic materials, so the name of the company was shortened to Stahls' Inc. to keep pace with the times. Ted Stahl, the third generation, now manages the Company.
Weaver Screen Print started in business July 1, 1978. Its owners, Mark and Helen Weaver started by selling garment lettering services to the sporting goods merchants of northeastern Ohio. The Weavers soon found that they would have to expand to meet the demand. With the promise of a profitable future they incorporated in January 1981.
In 1985, the Weavers' son, Tim, became active full-time in the Company. At that time Mark and Tim tried several efforts to make their enterprise more profitable with marginal success. They kept looking. Finally they settled on manufacturing custom transfer products that would sell to the same, yet expanded, market with which they were familiar.
The transformation from a printing service to a product manufacturer was steady and by 1988 Weaver Screen Print, Inc. sold only custom transfer products. The future looked bright and 1989 proved to be the best year yet. Also in 1989, the paths of Stahls' Inc. and Weaver Screen Print, Inc. crossed. In 1990 Weaver and Stahls' began to co-market custom transfers and on December 17, l990 formed a new corporation called Transfer Express, Inc. This "joint venture" was enhanced by the best of both companies; Stahls' with their strong tradition of service and an expanded customer base; Weaver with their technical expertise to produce a quality product.
On March 31, 2004, Transfer Express, Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of Groupe Stahl. This transaction provides Transfer Express, Inc. with access to the world wide market through Groupe Stahl’s subsidiaries in the garment decorating industry around the globe.
The Management of Transfer Express, Inc. will endeavor to keep the Company competitive by using the latest manufacturing, sales, and marketing techniques. The Management will also endeavor to allow our team members to become this Company's greatest assets. The future shows much promise with plenty of room for growth as our Company continues to succeed.
